Michelle Tan is a second-year graduate student candidate pursuing her Ed.S. in School Psychology with an added Applied Behavior Analysis certificate at California State University, Los Angeles. She aims to become a school psychologist and board certified behavior analyst.
Prior to her graduate studies, Michelle worked closely as a research assistant and lab manager with Dr. Kevin Autry at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, where she developed training protocols for research assistant cohorts to learn electroencephalogram (EEG) capping procedures and explored pain research through the utilization of a cold-pressor machine in the Cal Poly Pomona EEG Lab.
She previously conducted an undergraduate senior thesis study on the behavioral effects of positive and negative instruction. Mentored and trained in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis by Tommy Jia, BCBA, Sidney Ho, BCBA, Yamilest Vargas, BCBA, and Yadira Renteria, BCaBA, Michelle has in-field experience as a behavior interventionist working with adolescent populations and their families in clinics, homes, schools, and community outings. Her current research interests center on interventions that support students with chronic health conditions, including strategies for reintegration and inclusion following illness, extended absences, or medical leave. She is also interested in the experiences of students with disabilities in graduate school settings, and exploring the malleability of self-esteem and socio-economic mobility motivation in first-generation students.
A fun fact about Michelle is that she can understand 5 different languages!
